Dr. Andrés Rivera

It's not entirely up to you

Your friends always say the same thing, right? When you tell them how difficult it is to have a firm abdomen: that you need to eat better, that you’re not going to the gym enough…

How frustrating!

The truth is you don’t have to be doing things wrong. Your genetics, hormones, stress… any of these factors can cause excess fat or skin to resist disappearing. Even pregnancy can leave your belly sagging and your muscles weakened no matter how much diet and exercise you do.

So what can I do?

First: stop frustrating yourself. Second: trust an aesthetic surgeon with proven experience in abdominoplasty.

Feeling good is also health

But how am I going to undergo surgery just for vanity?

You just have to browse social media a bit to discover that this surgery changes people’s lives, so it’s not really a “whim”. You’ll also see that everyone in your situation is concerned about the same thing: the post-operative period and results.

Will it hurt? When will I look good? How long will my flat abdomen last?

Then comes the big question:

Where can I find a surgeon I can trust?

Dr. Miguel Fernández Calderón

Your wellbeing is my priority. Achieving your best version is my goal.

We count on plastic surgeons specialized in body contouring techniques and members of the Spanish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (SECPRE).

Each year over 400 people pass through Sculpture Clinic ready to transform their lives. To do this, we have the latest technologies in abdominal surgery (Lipo Vaser, BodyTite, Renuvion…), which allow us to offer the highest level of natural results and the best recovery.

We believe that true freedom is feeling good about yourself. That’s why we’re strongly committed to the wellbeing of each of our patients. How? Through a completely personalized and transparent treatment and post-operative follow-up based on closeness and human care.

Okay, but what do they think?

“A close and professional team to meet patients’ aesthetic needs. Good advice, demonstrating they know what they’re doing and that gives you a lot of confidence when it comes to something as important as health”

María José Pérez Bravo.

“Excellent surgical intervention and excellent results in just 3 months… happy and surprised by the results”

Ana Ruiz Molina.

“There is no better doctor, professionalism and an excellent team that provides you with all the information you need. The results are outstanding and both Dr. Fernández Calderón and his entire team are extremely professional, without a doubt I would visit their clinic again and again!!!!!!”

Diana Divina.

Do you have any questions?

Abdominoplasty is especially recommended for:

  • People with excess skin, fat, or sagging in the abdominal area that they have been unable to correct through diet and exercise.
  • People who have lost significant weight and have loose, hanging skin.
  • Women who have had one or more pregnancies and have excess skin and fat with stretch marks and significant abdominal muscle separation.

Both men and women in good health can undergo this procedure.

Having a protruding, rounded abdomen is a common concern, particularly in slim, athletic women who have had a baby. In these cases, a partial abdominoplasty or mini abdominoplasty is recommended. This is a much simpler procedure than traditional abdominoplasty that requires only a smaller incision and repair of the abdominal wall.

In such cases, liposuction may be more appropriate. Although we often perform this surgery together with abdominoplasty, it may or may not completely resolve the problem. Only a complete and personalized body assessment can answer this question.

First of all, congratulations! Often, people who suffered from obesity and have drastically reduced their weight are left with excess skin and fat in the abdominal area. This can be corrected with abdominoplasty, as this procedure not only removes excess skin from the abdomen, but also from the sides of the waist and even the lower back.

Actually, this is not a procedure designed to help the patient lose weight, but rather to remove excess fat and skin. Therefore, results will vary depending on your anatomical characteristics, as proportions of the abdomen and the rest of the body must be maintained. The total weight loss will depend on the amount of skin and fat removed.

Regardless, with this surgery you will achieve a more sculpted appearance and a firm, flat, natural-looking abdomen.

First, you will be hospitalized for one or two days after surgery so we can provide you with all necessary care and medications. After that, we will discharge you and you can go home with a drain in place. You will need about 10 days of relative rest with pain medication, but around days 5-6 we will schedule a follow-up appointment to remove your drains.

Throughout the first month, you will need to wear an abdominal compression garment continuously to promote healing. After this period, you can gradually resume your normal physical activity, although carefully, as abdominal swelling will continue for around 3-4 months. We will schedule another follow-up and by then you will likely see final results. However, you will need to continue caring for your scar for even a year and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

During the recovery process, you will experience periods of greater swelling that disappear on their own and stages where the abdomen appears flatter. Gradually, you will have fewer days of inflammation and final results will appear progressively after at least 2 months.

Whenever possible, obese patients are advised to lose weight beforehand through nutritional and sports control supported by specialists. If weight loss is not achieved and a very large abdomen is present, then surgery may be indicated. In that case, it is advisable to prepare the abdominal wall a few days before the procedure through breathing exercises.

During pregnancy, the abdominal muscles separate to allow the baby to grow, a condition that often persists after delivery. This is known as diastasis recti, which makes it impossible to maintain a firm abdomen through exercise, diet, or other non-surgical methods. Abdominoplasty is often recommended in these situations, as it brings the rectus abdominis muscles back together to restore their strength and firmness.

Yes, it is possible, but you are likely to lose some of the surgical results. For this reason, it is always recommended that you have all the children you wish before surgery. Ideally, you should consult with a specialist during pregnancy so that you can be properly monitored and excessive weight gain can be prevented.
