How Is Mastopexy with Implants Performed?

Types of incisions used

The type of incision determines the scar pattern that results from surgery.

Scar around the areola. Results from periareolar mastopexy. Indicated for patients with moderate sagging.

1. Vertical scar. From “I”-shaped mastopexy, which circles the areola but extends vertically down to the center of the breast. Recommended to improve shape, cleavage and correct sagging.
2. Anchor or inverted T-shaped scar. Results from L or T-shaped mastopexy. These scars are more visible, as a vertical incision is made followed by a horizontal extension along the base of the breast. For patients with severe sagging.

Implant Selection

Choosing the right implant is a collaborative effort between patient and surgeon. According to breast projection, implants can be high, low, or moderate profile. Based on shape, they can be round, anatomical, or ergonomic. Finally, they can be filled with saline solution or cohesive silicone gel.
