Vaginoplasty is a procedure that has gained popularity in recent years. It allows many women to recover their health and feel more comfortable with their genital area. Today we want to tell you how much vaginoplasty costs, as this is a determining factor in deciding whether to undergo the procedure.
What is vaginoplasty and who is it suitable for?
Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves the construction, reconstruction, and modification of the vagina.
It is an intimate and genital surgery that may serve medical or aesthetic purposes depending on each case.
Procedure objectives
- Aesthetic improvement: Allows reshaping of the labia majora and minora, skin tightening in the area, improvement of the mons pubis, and other procedures to improve the vaginal appearance.
- Improve functionality: This procedure improves vaginal depth and sensitivity. It also adjusts the opening and strengthens the pelvic floor.
- Vaginal reconstruction: This surgery corrects complications from previous procedures, accidents, or burns.
- Vaginal construction: Vaginoplasty allows construction of a vagina that matches natural anatomy. When combined with breast augmentation, it provides ideal results for transgender women.
Ideal candidates for surgery
Ideal candidates for vaginoplasty must meet certain medical criteria such as:
- Presenting congenital malformations, post-surgical damage, or complications from an accident affecting the area.
- Feeling discomfort with vulvovaginal anatomy, whether due to prominent or asymmetrical labia, laxity, or other aesthetic concerns.
- Having good general and gynecological health.
- Realistic expectations. Not focusing solely on aesthetics, but also on functionality.
- In the case of transgender women, at least 1 year of hormone therapy is required and prior psychological evaluations must be completed
How much does vaginoplasty cost in Spain?
The price of vaginoplasty in Spain varies depending on multiple factors such as the type of procedure, clinic location, and others. However, it generally ranges between €2,490 and €15,000.
Some estimated prices depending on the type of procedure are:
- Gender-affirming vaginoplasty: €7,000 – €15,000
- Aesthetic vaginoplasty: €2,500 – €6,000
- Functional/reconstructive vaginoplasty: €3,000 – €8,000

What factors influence the price of vaginoplasty?
Surgeon’s fees and experience
Surgeons with experience and multiple specializations typically charge more due to their fees.
Also consider the fees of the anesthesiologist and support staff.
Type of anesthesia used
Depending on the complexity and extent of the procedure, general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation may be employed. The first option is the most expensive.
Clinic facilities and equipment
Medical centers with the latest technology in medical equipment, located in major cities such as Madrid or Barcelona, have higher prices than smaller clinics
Need for hospitalization or outpatient procedure
Outpatient procedures are more economical as they do not require hospitalization. This is why the cost of labioplasty is typically lower than other procedures in the area.
On the other hand, if the surgery is complex and requires hospitalization and special care, these are included in the final price.
Inclusion of pre- and post-operative consultations
Keep in mind that before surgery you must attend pre-operative consultations. The first is an initial assessment where you undergo a series of medical tests. Then you will have one where the specialist presents the surgical plan and you meet with the anesthesiologist.
After the operation, the first post-operative consultation is within the first 14 days. Subsequently, you must attend when you reach one month post-operation. Depending on your recovery, attend periodic follow-up appointments as your doctor indicates.
What does the price of vaginoplasty include?
Pre-operative evaluations and tests
Medical evaluations prior to surgery are very important. These review the patient’s medical history, perform physical examinations, and psychological evaluation
Some of the pre-operative tests are blood work, pelvic ultrasounds, magnetic resonance imaging, electrocardiogram, and vaginal cultures.
Operating room and medical equipment costs
The price of vaginoplasty includes the cost of using the operating room and all medical equipment.
Also included are the fees of the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and support team for both the operation and hospitalization.
Post-operative medication and materials
Often, medications such as painkillers, antibiotics, and others necessary for recovery are included in the price of surgery. Depending on the case, it also includes a vaginal dilator, which is used to maintain the opening of the vaginal canal during healing.
Medical follow-up and check-ups
The price of vaginoplasty includes some post-operative follow-up visits. These consultations are necessary to monitor recovery and detect any complications for timely treatment.
Does public healthcare or private insurance cover vaginoplasty?
Coverage in medical vs. aesthetic cases
In Spain, both social security and private insurance do not cover vaginoplasty if performed for aesthetic reasons. Neither does vaginal rejuvenation.
Full or partial coverage is only possible if the patient demonstrates a medical need. That is, the surgery will be performed to correct a deformity or anatomical problem that affects their health or quality of life.
Requirements for public or private financing
The requirements for obtaining public or private financing vary depending on the healthcare system you choose.
Social security covers vaginoplasty, but only under specific conditions. For example, if it is part of the gender affirmation process for transgender individuals. However, for this to be approved, a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, medical report, and in some cases prior hormone therapy are mandatory.
Financing through private insurance requires much stricter requirements. They do not cover vaginoplasty as gender affirmation surgery. However, they may provide partial financing in cases where the need for surgery is demonstrated for health reasons.
Another alternative is to find a clinic or hospital that offers financing or installment payment plans. Many offer financing between 6 and 24 months with no interest, or agreements with financial institutions.
Understanding the cost of vaginoplasty and everything it includes is necessary to make the decision to undergo this procedure, which could improve your quality of life. We recommend consulting with our specialists and choosing the one that offers you the best conditions and adapts to your needs.
