Many people feel self-conscious about their arms due to accumulated fat that cannot be eliminated through diet or exercise alone. An effective alternative to improve the arm contour and achieve proportional results with your body is arm liposuction. Discover what this procedure involves and how it can help you.

What is arm liposuction and what is it used for?

It is an aesthetic surgery procedure that removes localized fat deposits from the arms, especially the upper region. This improves the contour and definition of this area for a more sculpted appearance.

Arm liposuction is primarily used for:

  • Reduce volume: eliminates fat deposits (especially in the triceps area) that resist diet and exercise. This makes the arm appear slimmer.
  • Define contour: sculpts the arm shape to create a more athletic, firm and symmetrical appearance.
  • Improve proportions: adjusts arm size to match the rest of your body.

Who is a candidate for arm liposuction (and who is not)?

Ideal candidate profile

Ideal candidates for arm liposuction share the following characteristics:

  • People with stable weight, close to ideal, who despite maintaining a healthy lifestyle have fat deposits in the arms.
  • Good skin elasticity. The skin must be able to adapt to the new arm contour after surgery.
  • Good overall health, preferably non-smokers, with no medical conditions affecting wound healing. Any chronic conditions must be well controlled.
  • Realistic expectations about the procedure.

When liposuction is not enough

  • Moderate to severe skin laxity: sometimes the problem is not fat accumulation but sagging skin. In these cases, excess tissue must be removed through a brachioplasty.
  • Poor skin elasticity: if the skin has lost elasticity due to age, liposuction may result in a wrinkled or sagging appearance. In these cases, the specialist evaluates whether to perform arm liposculpture or remove tissue after fat extraction.

Arm liposuction techniques: which is the best option?

To choose the appropriate liposuction technique, the surgeon evaluates different factors. Among the most important are the amount of fat and skin condition. Below we explain how each technique works.

Traditional liposuction (tumescent)

The classic method is used, which involves applying saline solution with anesthesia and epinephrine to facilitate fat extraction and reduce bleeding. Then, using a manual cannula, fat is suctioned from the area.

It is the most economical technique and effective for removing large volumes of fat. However, it does not promote skin retraction.

VASER liposuction (ultrasound)

One of the best options for arm liposuction. This technique uses ultrasonic technology to emulsify fat, which is then suctioned through a cannula.

VASER arm liposuction reduces the probability of damage to tissues, blood vessels and nerves. Additionally, the heat generated promotes better skin retraction.

Laser liposuction (lipolaser)

Through microincisions, laser technology liquefies the fat, allowing the cannula to absorb it easily. The heat also stimulates collagen synthesis for better skin retraction and recovery.

Recommended for removing small fat volumes. It is also worth noting that recovery from laser arm liposuction is faster than traditional methods.

Brachioplasty liposculpture (lipobrachioplasty)

Also known as arm lift, this procedure combines liposuction to reduce fat volume with removal of a small ellipse of skin in the axilla to hide the scar.

Brachioplasty with liposuction is recommended for people with accumulated fat and moderate notable laxity.

arm liposuction prices and more

How much does arm liposuction cost in Spain in 2026?

The average price for arm liposuction in Spain ranges between €2,500 and €4,000. This varies depending on factors such as:

  • The technique used, with VASER being more expensive (€3,000-€4,500) than traditional methods (€2,000-€3,000).
  • Surgeon’s experience.
  • Geographic location. In Madrid/Barcelona it can be up to 30% more expensive than other cities.
  • And if combined with brachioplasty or liposuction in other areas.

The procedure price typically includes anesthesia, operating room, preoperative tests, compression garments and postoperative follow-ups. However, medication and lymphatic drainage sessions should be budgeted separately.

How arm liposuction is performed: the procedure step by step

  1. Consultation and initial assessment: during the first consultations, the surgeon evaluates your skin elasticity, body mass index (BMI) and medical history. This ensures you are a candidate for surgery and determines the appropriate method to achieve the best results.
  2. Preoperative tests: before the procedure you must undergo studies such as blood work, electrocardiogram and anesthesia screening.
  3. Anesthesia: the most common option is local anesthesia with sedation. Although in some cases general anesthesia is used, for example, when arm liposuction is combined with abdominal liposuction or another procedure.
  4. Incisions: 2 to 4 millimeter incisions are made in discreet areas such as the inner arm, elbow, or armpit to conceal scars. So don’t worry about arm liposuction scars.
  5. Cannula introduction + controlled suction: a tumescent solution is introduced to numb the area and control bleeding. Then, using a cannula, fat deposits are broken down and suctioned out.
  6. Duration: the procedure lasts between 1 and 2 hours. Generally, it is outpatient, meaning you are discharged the same day.

Arm liposuction recovery: what to expect week by week

First 48 hours

This is the time of greatest discomfort. Bruises appear and your arms may even look larger than before surgery due to swelling.

It is important that you wear the compression garment 24 hours for as long as your doctor directs. This prevents fluid accumulation and helps the skin adhere to the muscle.

You can move your arms and walk, but avoid lifting heavy objects.

First week

After the first 5 days, you will be able to perform simple daily activities. However, you should continue to avoid sudden movements and lifting heavy objects.

If necessary, the surgeon will remove sutures after the first week. After this, you can undergo lymphatic drainage massage to eliminate fluid accumulation and improve recovery.

3 to 6 weeks

By the third week after the procedure, bruises should have disappeared.

Regarding how long it takes for arm liposuction swelling to go down, it decreases considerably after week 3. This allows you to start noticing results.

At this stage you can resume cardiovascular exercise. Do not lift weights until your doctor authorizes it.

Final result

The final result is seen approximately at 6 months, when arm liposuction recovery is almost complete. At this point the skin finishes adjusting to its new contour and scars have a color similar to your skin.

For faster recovery and better results, remember not to lift weight until your doctor allows it and avoid intense exercise for 4-6 weeks. Don’t forget lymphatic drainage to accelerate the process and protect the area from the sun.

Arm liposuction results: what you can expect

Arm liposuction not only helps you eliminate accumulated fat. It also helps you reshape your silhouette and achieve better muscle definition.

Keep in mind that this procedure alone does not eliminate loose skin or cellulite. It is also not a method for weight loss or obtaining greater muscle tone.

Arm liposuction is an alternative to eliminate that stubborn accumulated fat in the lower arm area and achieve lasting results. Book an appointment and consult with one of our surgeons about the best technique to achieve more defined arms that match your body.
